IP Lookup

Look up information associated with a public IP address, including approximate location, organization, ISP, autonomous system number (ASN) and timezone. You can also check the public IP address currently detected by the browser.

Look up a public IP address

Enter a public IPv4 or IPv6 address.

What this tool does

The IP Lookup tool sends the IP address you enter to the external IP information service used by this page. The returned information may include the country, region, city, approximate coordinates, postal code, ASN, organization and timezone associated with the address.

When you use the My IP button, the page first detects the public IP address visible to the external IP detection service and then requests available information about that address.

How it works

  1. You enter a public IPv4 or IPv6 address, or choose My IP.
  2. If you choose My IP, an external IP detection service identifies the public address visible from the internet.
  3. The address is sent to the IP information service to retrieve available registration and geolocation data.
  4. YourAnalystAI displays the returned information and identifies the data source where applicable.

Limitations & transparency

IP geolocation is an estimate. An IP address does not normally identify an exact physical location.

An address may be associated with an ISP registration, datacenter, network hub, mobile carrier, VPN endpoint or proxy rather than the physical location of the person using it.

The accuracy of the result therefore depends on the databases and information available to the external lookup service.

The IP address you look up is sent from your browser to the external services required to provide the result. YourAnalystAI is a static site and does not provide a backend for storing IP lookup results. See the Privacy Policy .

Key terms to understand

Public IP address
The IP address visible to internet services when a connection reaches them. A router can share one public address among multiple devices on a local network.
IPv4 vs IPv6
IPv4 uses 32-bit addresses, such as 8.8.8.8. IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses and provides a much larger address space, such as 2606:4700:4700::1111. Both formats can be used with this tool when supported by the external lookup service.
ASN (Autonomous System Number)
An Autonomous System Number identifies an autonomous system that announces IP address ranges and participates in internet routing. ISPs, cloud providers and other network operators can operate autonomous systems.
ISP / organization
The lookup service may identify the organization or network associated with an IP address range. This is registration information and does not necessarily identify the individual using the address.
Timezone
The timezone associated by the lookup database with the reported location of the IP address. It should not be interpreted as the exact timezone of the user.
IP geolocation
IP geolocation estimates a geographic area associated with an IP address using databases and network information. Accuracy varies by provider, network type and address.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my IP show a city I have never visited?
IP geolocation databases estimate where an IP address is associated or registered. Internet service providers may register address ranges at locations that differ from where their customers are physically located. Therefore, the displayed city should be treated as an approximate database result rather than your exact physical location.
Why do different IP lookup sites show different locations?
Different services may use different databases, data sources and update schedules. As a result, IP geolocation estimates can differ between providers.
Can an IP lookup identify a person?
No. An IP lookup normally provides network registration and approximate geolocation information. It does not identify the individual using the address.
Does the tool know my exact physical location?
No. IP-based geolocation is approximate. VPNs, proxies, mobile networks, carrier-grade NAT and ISP routing can cause the reported location to differ significantly from the user's actual location.
